The origin of the name Bienenstich, which means bee sting, is unclear.
Legend has it that a bee was attracted from the sweet smells while baking it, and the baker got stung from it.
Another source tells the stoy that german bakers threw beehives on to hunters from a neighbour village and successfully defeated them. Celebrating their success a cake was baked and named after their glory weapon.
